National 4-H Livestock Event Placements Announced

  Iowa 4-H teams took high honors at several recent national judging events, according to Mike Anderson, 4-H agriculture program coordinator with Iowa State University Extension. The Western National Roundup was held Jan. 5-9, in Denver, Colo., where several Iowa teams participated in a variety of events including the Horse Judging Contest, Hippology, Horse Quiz Bowl and the Livestock Judging Contest.

Vinton journalists bring home INA awards

Josh Berhow     There was a rare absence for a Vinton-Shellsburg basketball game Friday evening. The familiar cap and camera belonging to Cedar Valley Daily Times/Vinton Eagle sports editor Josh Berhow were not in the customary place at the corner of the court near the home team’s basket.     Josh was not at his usual place in Vinton on Friday night because he was in Des Moines, receiving two awards from the Iowa Newspaper Association.

My Selfless Neighbors

  Russ Hupfeld and John Schoettmer are two of the best neighbors a person could ask for. Last spring a big limb fell off the tree in my front yard and John came over, cut and cleaned it up before I got home from work. This morning, after an hour, I had 1/3 of my driveway hand-shoveled (1 1/2' drift covering the entire thing and 4' at the end where the city had plowed) when Russ comes tooling over with his massive snowblower and finished it in 20 minutes.

Upper Iowa University Announces Fall 2010 Dean's List

Wyatt Joseph Shaver joins Vinton Family

Wyatt Joseph Shaver Tyler and Cindy Shaver of Vinton became the parents of their first child, a son, Wyatt Joseph Shaver, born November 3, 2010, at 5:35 a.m. at St. Luke's Hospital in Cedar Rapids. He weighed seven pounds 15 ounces and was 20 3/4 inches long.
